So far, I haven't had a lot of time to do work on my project, but I have gone out on the prairie once. I took around a hundred pictures and have yet to edit them. Once they have been edited, I will send them to Ms. Lewis and hopefully she can identify the plants in these pictures.
The two cuts in the tree you see were actually made on purpose. It is a process called girdling, that is meant to kill the tree and make it fall down, so new prairie grasses can grow in its place. This is one of the many species of mosses, although I do not know which one. This is a species of milkweed, probably common milkweed: Asclepias syriaca. This is a picture of a fungi. This flower is called an aster, these flowers only bloom in the fall. One of the goldenrod species, probably Canada Goldenrod: Solidago canadensis.
